High Altitude Surf Ski Championships 2022 – 2 April 2022
Massive waves, friendly sharks, the hottest life guards and great prizes! Dabulamanzi Canoe Club hosts a surf ski race every year where they invite surf ski paddlers from wide and far, dust off their own crafts and rally in the wave-inducing speedboats to create swells, waves and excitement. Yes, we know – we are in Johannesburg – the greatest man-made forest, a long way from any South African coast-line – but who said we couldn’t dream up this storm. This is after all the world’s greatest surf ski race.

Alongside our Dabulamanzi ducks and SUPS, Hank and Pippa McGregor, fought the Emmarentia waves with great enthusiasm, driving their surf ski into first place for the mixed doubles category, while Dabulamanzi legends Wayne Jacobs and Ricci Talevi won the men’s category and Caitlyn Evans & Helen Jansen van Vuuren won the women’s category. The juniors faced serious waves and delivered greatly with Luke Salmon winning the under 18 boys category and Kayla Szalay winning the under 18 girls. The ocean is also a playground for stand up paddleboards where Artur Barreiros took first place in the full SUP race and the two dragon SUP boards with Elandrie Zietsman, Abbi Bohnshack, Abigail Edgar, Michelle Bate, Michelle Haskins, Esme Bester, Kristen Haskins and Georgie Chennells won the SUP Social race.

The races were followed with amazing prizes from Fenn, Standard Bank, Mace Group, GuardianAir & Adreach, delicious burgers from the Oink and Moo food truck and a stella performance from the one and only Dabblers. If you haven’t joined us for one of these events, we would suggest that you get your priorities straight and get to it ASAP!
