VLC hosted the 2023 SA Schools and Senior Sprint Canoeing Championships over the weekend with almost 70 Dabs and SCARC paddlers vying for spots on the various South African teams to race internationally later this year, including the Junior and Under 23 World Championship as well as the Olympic Hope squads. Loveday Zondi and his team put on almost 100 races for girls and boys, women and men in the Under 12, 14, 16, 18, 23, Senior and Master categories, across the 200m, 500m, 1 000m, and 5 000m Olympic sprint distances.

Nkosi Mzolo was very proud of his Scarcies who took home 31 medals including 10 Gold, 8 Silver and 13 Bronze; with Aphiwe, Benjamin, Lesedi, Kwando, Ryno and Nkosi earning Golds. Coach Adro was equally proud of his HPP squad members Luke, Bruno, Kayla and young Blake who garnered 25 Gold medals between them. Other Dabs Gold medalists included Gunther, Nic W, Jordan, Edward and Sean. Well done all!

Next up, more marathons where you can enjoy a change of scenery with a K1 event on the 6th at Centurion, then K2’s at VLC on the 13th and then another K1 event at Emmarentia on the 20th. Please come support the finest club in the whole dam universe. The GCU Marathon champs then take place at ERK over the first weekend of June, and we hope to see Dabs dominating there too – Go Dabs!
